How would you rate your partner's level of English?
For Australian immigration purposes, the various English levels are defined as the following :
Excellent (Superior) - a superior command of the English language. Must have full operational command of the language and can handle complex detailed argumentation. To demonstrate this level of English, a score of at least 8 in each of the 4 components of the IELTS which are speaking, reading, writing and listening. All applicants, regardless of their country of passport, must take the IELTS in order to demonstrate Superior English.
Very Good (Proficient English) - an excellent command of the English language. Must be able to use and understand complex language and detailed reasoning. To demonstrate this level of English, a score of at least 7 in each of the 4 components of the IELTS which are speaking, reading, writing and listening. All applicants, regardless of their country of passport, must take the IELTS in order to demonstrate Superior English.
Good (Competent English) - a generally effective command of the English language. Must be able to use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations. To demonstrate this level of English, a score of at least 6 in each of the 4 components of the IELTS which are speaking, reading, writing and listening. Applicants who hold a passport from the UK, US, Ireland, New Zealand and Canada are deemed to meet this threshold level.
Poor - Difficulty communicating in English. This equates to a band score less than 5 out of 9 in each of the four components of the IELTS test that are speaking, reading, writing and listening. This level is below the threshold level and would not satisfy the English language requirement for skilled migration.
